Scout Camping at Morrow Mountain, NC

Dad and the boys went camping with the cub scout pack at Morrow Mountain State Park over the weekend. The weather was clear but cold. Daytime highs were into the fifties but the lows were in the mid twenties each night.

The following are some photos of what we did.

We brought a game of horseshoes. It was a real hit with the kids. There was a steady stream of scouts playing all weekend.

Out on a dock prior to a nature hike led by a park ranger. We learned about the local wildlife and a bit about the park history (summary: during the 1800's it was a popular river crossing and during the 1930's the CCC built the park. It is the 3rd oldest NC state park.).

Joe, Ben, Evan, Brian and Oscar (left to right) playing a game of horseshoes.

Brian about to make a throw. The glove on the stack is to warn hikers near the trail - a few ran into the bare pole.

Flag raising ceremony on the first morning.

Brian and Ben bundling up for a camp fire.

Brian snoozed late the first morning. Who wants to get out of bed when it's 24 degrees outside?

The first night we got the tent up before sunset. They don't realize that in about 90 minutes the temp will fall 30 degrees!

We had a hot meal to keep the chills off.
