Rob Runs his first 5k

This Saturday is Holly Fest here in Holly Springs. To start the festivities off, the town put on a charitable 5K run. Rob entered and finished, we are very proud of him! Cecilia, Evelyn, and I went in to watch, and cheer him on.

Medoc Mountain Scout Camp

Robert and the boys went camping at Medoc Mountain.

MedocScoutCamp 002

The first 24 hours it rained - hard at times. The rain gear was on but we dropped an extra tarp on top to make sure we stayed dry when the wind picked up.

The hike on the Summit Trail provided some scenic views.

About 30 minutes into a 2 hour hike.

Near the summit we came across a box turtle. The boys enjoyed checking it out before moving on.

With about a mile left we ran across a rock formation that was a great place to rest for a minute.

Nick Hotel

One last vacation post. We took the kids to the Nick Hotel on the last leg of our Disney trip. It's a really fun place. They have huge water slides, Mini golf, basket ball, and lots of activities for the kids to do. They have great rooms that fit all of us too! (which is a bonus for a big family)

Some of the places we ate

It all comes back to dinner - and at Disney every princess gets to eat like a king.

The first night was Cinderella's Royal Table inside the castle at Magic Kingdom.

Next was Liberty Tree Tavern where the kids got an experience of colonial living Disney-style.

Day three was the Sci-Fi Drive-In at MGM Studios. This is one of the kids' favorites.

Day four was the Garden Grill at The Land in EPCOT. This is a rotating resturant that overlooks The Land ride. On the ride they tell you that the resturant serves fresh vegetables grown at The Land greenhouses - but in the resturant they tell you that that is not true. But it was still delicious.

Breakfast at Chef Mickey's is a great way to start the day. Mickey-shaped waffles, fruit, eggs, etc - it's all available.

Ohanas is Rob's favorite. family style Hawaiian dishes and shows make for a fun dinner the whole family loves. The kids took part in coconut races and hula dance while mom and dad enjoyed a little quiet at their table overlooking the Magic Kingdom castle.

Downtown Disney

Downtown Disney is a great place to walk, shop and have a nice dinner. Hitting the LEGO Store and World of Disney are "Horvick Family Traditions" (tm).

Evie works on her masterpiece at the LEGO center.

The boys are preparing their super-awesome race car at the LEGO store play area.

Ben and Evie posing at the Disney scrapbooking store.

World of Disney is the home of everything Disney. We never walk out without at least a few bags of Disney swag.

Waiting our turn at the Rainforest Cafe.

Goofing around at Goofy's Candy Company.

Ben shows of his Disney Tribal Band. A month later and that last sign of that tattoo has finally faded away.

Typhoon Lagoon

We spent one day at the Typhoon Lagoon water park enjoying the sun, water and giant wave pool.

We took the WDW Bus lines to get to and from - it's the best way to get around between parks and resorts.

Evie cooling off in the beached tug in the wave pool overflow basin.

Waiting for our ride at the end of the day.

A great photo op surf side.

Hamming it up.

Animal Kingdom

Animal Kingdom is a great place to spend a hot afternoon. With it's African and Asian themes the kids loved walking around and getting a taste of some other cultural flavors. The kids loved riding Everest and the river rapids but most of the time was spent exploring Africa and Asia.

Taking a quick break in Harambe Village.

The Tree of Life from the trail between Asia and Africa.

Hanging out with new friends at Rafiki's Planet Watch.

This was one of our favorite Hidden Mickys.

Evie gets her funk on at the drum activity area in Harambe.

Ben also found his inner drummer-boy outside of Harambe Village.

Disney-MGM Studios

After an afternoon of swimming there is no better way to end the day then heading over the MGM for some thrills and good food.

Dinner at the Sci-Fi Drive-in is a Horvick tradition. The giant screen plays some old-time entertainment (with a few surprises mixed in) while we sit in a stretch car table.

After our meal we hit some of our favorite rides. The Back Lot Tour is a great way to see some movie props and have a little fun on a "ride".

Home Away From Home: All-Star Movies Resort

While at Disney World we stayed at the All-Star Movies Resort in building 9 - the Herbie "The Love Bug" building.

This hotel has a large swimming pool with a Fantasia theme - this is where we spent most of our time when not at the parks.

Epcot

Day two was spent at EPCOT. On this day Evie got her first taste of "big" rides (Test Track and Mission: Space [the "green" team]), the older kids went on "orange team" and we all had a great time on Soarin', Figment, The Land, and exploring the park.

We also checked out the new Nemo ride.

At the end of the day we headed back to the Magic Kingdom for dinner at the Liberty Tree Tavern. This is a coloniel themed family-style resturant with several characters including Chip and Dale, Pluto, Goofy and Minnie.

Bibbity Bobbity Boutique

A highlight for the girls is their annual visit to the Bibbity Bobbity Boutique. They get made up like the princesses we all know they are and then get to walk around the park all day looking quite stylish.

Magic Kingdom

Our first day at Disney World was spent at Magic Kingdom. We ate at Cinderella's Royal Table, rode some rides and met up with some characters.

Andrew brought James and Jill along and the kids all had a great time hanging out.
