Everclear concert
The first concert of the Raleigh Downtown Live series (hosted by 96 rock) was last night. This is a free concert series that brings in some pretty big names and about few thousand ... um ... boisterous ... fans. (Did I mention it's the "Bud Light Downtown Live Concert Series?" :) )
The shows started at 2pm but the main show was Everclear who took the state around 9:15.
Sue and I are pretty big Everclear fans so the chance to see them live was great.
Since 96 Rock is one of the sponsors we swung by the DJ booth around 7pm and D hooked us up in the VIP tent. Unlike the Champagne Room, the VIP tent is just a tent with some Jiffy Johns (though the same rules apply, I'm sure). They distracted you from this fact with free beer. After partaking we walked to the Tir Na Nog for dinner.
Finally around 8 we planted ourselves about 100 feet from the stage and watched their opening act (Hobex - they seemed like a fairly decent jam band).
When Everclear came out they rocked the place for 90 minutes. They played every one of their hits from the 90's and a few new things. Their encore was a three song set ending with I Will Buy You a New Life. They closed the show by bringing up about 100 drunk girls and having them dance while they sung "867-5309" on the way out - kind of an odd way to end ... but whatever.
Oh - and for the Family in Fargo - Everclear is going to be playing the Fargodome (outdoors) on June 8th.
Here's a poor quality photo of the show ...
